FOOD DRIVE

WHY SUPPORT BLUES AGAINST HUNGER?

The Blues Against Hunger Society is dedicated to feeding the hungry. Our mission is to produce free live blues music food drive events for collecting nonperishable food donations for local food banks. We feel hunger and blues come from the same origin - poverty. In 2015, 14.5 million or approximately 20 percent of children in the U.S. lived in poverty.

We feel blues is a style of music ideal for bringing people together, both music fans of all kinds, and musicians alike, all to help our community. All BAHS events are FREE to the public. We do not accept cash donations, only food. If you wish to donate money, you can contact the food bank in your area, or refer to the Feeding America list provided below. If you wish to support BAHS so that we may continue producing food drive blues events, please join BAHS.

WHY DONATE FOOD?

According to Feeding America (http://www.feedingamerica.org/), Good nutrition, particularly in the first three years of life, is important for establishing a good foundation that has implications for a child’s future physical and mental health, academic achievement, and economic productivity.

Unfortunately, food insecurity is an obstacle that threatens that critical foundation. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 13.1 million children under 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. Although food insecurity is harmful to any individual, it can be particularly devastating among children due to their increased vulnerability and the potential for long-term consequences.
